Miss Abbie has been part of the DancePro Academy family since the very beginning. Here are a few of her words on the school, x
I have been with DancePro Academy since it first began; I was just 12 years old! I first started as a student myself, taking part in a summer school that Miss Gill had hosted to launch DancePro Academy. Because the school was so young, there were no other students my age and so I began helping on Wednesdays with ballet, tap and modern. This lead to me helping with the Musical Theatre classes on Mondays too. By 2016, the school had grown and I started working on Thursdays on the reception to help with parents questions and uniform orders. I currently work as a class assistant on Mondays and on reception Thursdays and Saturdays, welcoming new students.
Being part of DancePro Academy has helped me in many ways particularly with my confidence and independence. I have gradually been given more responsibilities by Miss Gill which has been a necessity for my growth. The school has also supported me through many ups and downs in my personal life which I couldn’t be more grateful for.
I have enjoyed taking part in many of our dance shows one as a dancer and others as backstage support. The shows are such an amazing way to show off the students talent and backstage is full of chaos and excitement. I have assisted at many Summer and Easter workshops which has given me so many new experiences in coping with different situations. With the support of Gill over the years I have rediscovered my love for dance and her encouragement enabled me to start taking dance classes along with me getting involved with Musical Theatre productions within the community.
Working at DancePro Academy has secured the idea that I would like to work with children in the future which has led me to study Primary Education at University! The training and working with children in the educational sector has been interesting and fun. I now have a Safeguarding and DBS certificate and I’m looking forward to gaining more strings to my bow!
One of my favourite things about DancePro Academy is the relationships that the staff have with the children and parents along with the friendships that are formed between the children themselves. I love getting to know each child individually and see them all grow in confidence and self esteem. Another thing I admire about DancePro is all the classes Gill has to offer. From Musical Theatre, Street dance, Ballet, ISTD and LAMDA exams and shows… I believe this really enables children to find their favourite style and something they love! The age range and different ability that DancePro Academy caters for is amazing as it truly means anyone that wants to give a hobby in the dance field a go, can!
